WITNESS: SULTAN OF JOHOR HAVE AN INTEREST IN THE ,,CROOKED BRIDGE,,

Sultan of Johor has an interest in international bridge project of the Malaysia-Singapore route, better known as the 'crooked bridge', as the Kuala Lumpur High Court was told today.

Sultan of Johor Sultan Iskandar Ibrahim son of the late Sultan said when he acquired the interest of the Tengku Mahkota of 1998.

NONEThis was disclosed by businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah in
testimony today.

Eskay sue Merong Mahawangsa Sdn Bhd and the major shareholder of the company, Yahya A Jalil, a total of RM20 million.


The statement of claim states that the defendants failed to pay RM20 million as agreed for helping get the crooked bridge project.

Yahya, who is director Merong Mahawangsa, allegedly by Eskay get help to get the project from the government and for foreign funds of RM640 million to implement the project.

NONEIn his testimony, Eskay ( right ) said he initially wanted the 16.66 percent interest in Merong Mahawangsa in return for successfully helping companies get the project,

He claimed that, on July 3, 1998 John, however, has been contacted and informed him that an agreement can not be fulfilled.

"John told me there are changes in circumstances Merong Mahawangsa. John explained to me that the Tengku Mahkota Johor (now Sultan of Johor) will become a shareholder in the company. "

Therefore, he said, John told him that the earlier agreement it received 16.66 percent of the company are not met.

As a result, says Eskay, John offered him compensation amounting to RM20 million to replace the 16.66 percent stake in the company.
